You say Huckleberry, I say Bilberry. Food for free!

On a recent wonder around the woods above our town, my wife and I came across swath’s of wild Billberries. They are basically a wild, zestier version of the commercial Blueberry.

If you live near pine woodland there’s a good chance you too could get a load of tasty berries for free! Check the open ground between sections of forest, along stone walls and amongst patches of heather.

We also found a lot of wild strawberries, they too are flavour bombs in comparison to their supermarket cousins.

Give ‘Bilberry’ a Google, you’ll be surprised at their benefits. Get out and have a forage whilst the sun is shining.

Have any thoughts on local wild edibles? There are lots of forgotten foods lurking along the hedgerows.
